What exactly can I package?
You could salary package one laptop or one other electronic device per FBT year if it is used primarily for work purposes.
The items you can package under this benefit include:
- laptop or notebook computers
- mobile phones
- portable printers
Before salary packaging any of these items, your employer must confirm via declaration that the item(s) are used for business purposes more than 50% of the time.
To salary package a device and avoid the cost of Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT), you need to keep a daily record of your usage for at least one month during a three year period after you purchase the device.
