Maximise your workplace benefits program with the new bus travel benefit

3/11/2016 1:12:30 PM

RemServ bus travel benefitRemServ, along with the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Minister for Transport, have announced employees will be able to stretch their salary further through a new salary packaging benefit, bus travel.

The new bus travel benefit, available to employers to include as a salary packaging benefit in their workplace benefits program, will allow employees to pay for their bus travel to and from work with pre-tax funds.

RemServ’s General Manager Amanda MacDougall said the initiative was great news for eligible bus commuters in South East Queensland.

“Regular bus users from Coolangatta to Gympie and out west to Helidon could save on their bus travel. For example, a commuter travelling from Sandgate to the city every day for work could save over $1,000 depending on their salary.” Ms MacDougall said.

By offering this great new benefit, employees could also save time thanks to automatic top-up – the TransLink smartcard will be topped up with pre-tax dollars when the balance falls below $5. Employers will also be able to reduce their carbon footprint by encouraging their employees to leave their car behind and catch public transport.

The new benefit will be available in 2016, for bus travel within South East Queensland by simply touching on and off with a TransLink smartcard on the TransLink network.
